The Wedding Date

This was short. It ended at 72% on my Kindle. The rest of the book was excerpts for this author's other books in the series as well as some other authors.
This is the first book I've read by this author. It looked like it could be interesting and it was only $.99. There wasn't anything really wrong with it. It seemed well edited from the standpoint of missing/extra/misspelled words. The story just happens so fast. It happens in about four consecutive days. Cody is a doctor who is new in town (he's from Texas, ya'll). He's been in town for very short period of time after having moved from Texas and is looking for a place to live (currently staying in a hotel). Julie is a realtor and specializes in helping couples find their dream home. Julie is recommended to Cody as a realtor so he shows up at her office. She tries to turn him away, but he turns on the charm (he's from Texas, ya'll) and uses his wiles (very blatantly) to convince her to show him some places, even though he's not part of a couple. It goes from there. Julie has a hatred of doctors because her fiance died of cancer and she needs someone to blame. So, that's the whole impediment to hooking up with Cody, the player (he's from Texas, ya'll). It was just too fast. And Cody did not seem like a doctor, at all. He's a doctor, grew up on a ranch, was a rodeo rider, he's a vegetarian and he's from Texas, ya'll.

Good fun

Funny. Sweet. And addicting. The Wedding Date is a breath of fresh air.
There is just so much more to this story than I first imagined. And I can't even tell you how much I am beginning to enjoy Christmas themed stories. They are completely and utterly getting to me, in the best sort of way, this year!
Julie Marone is a bit broken. She is single. An unconventional matchmaker; matching perspective couple with their dream homes. But she also lost her fiancee'. To cancer. And she has an extreme dislike for doctors.
And when she meets a strikingly handsome, smooth-talking, and single cowboy, who talks her into making an exception. Into finding him a home.... let's just say, she's sunk. Instant attraction. For a cowboy, who also happens to be a medical doctor.
What's a girl to do?
Cody Brown wants Julie. A little flabergast that she leads him on a merry chase but still very eager for follow, he pursues her relentlessly. Worming his way into her heart. Earning her trust. He's amazing. A doctor with a mission to save lives, to make the world a better place.
He's exactly what Julie needs to heal, forgive, and ultimately begin a new life.
I loved that Cody didn't let Julie wallow in the pain of her past. He was strong and reliable. And he wanted her so badly, I just couldn't help but love him. And whew, the man is sexy. Really. Truly. Sexy.
Julie is a character I could empathize with. Death is never easy and losing those you love the most, is nearly unbearable. Therefore, we might all see how and why she may need to assign blame to someone. Something. Just to get through the day. Because sometimes, life just plain hurts.
Cara Connelly does an amazing job bringing out this story. Death, fear, love, blind dates from hell, and nosy siblings, it bleeds sincerity though and through. This story was an interesting, mostly hilarious, heartfelt and feel good read that never left me bored.
Cody and Julie are a super fun couple. I was sad to leave them. Such is my never ending love/ hate battle in the world of Novellas. I can't wait to continue the series and meet Cody's brother!

A sexy novella

In The Wedding Date: A Christmas Novella by Cara Connelly, Cody Brown is definitely a long way from home, he realizes, as he trudges through the sleet and snow in Boston. The Texas born ER doctor is on the hunt for a place to live and he's been told realtor Julie Marone is just the woman to help him. However, Julie seems immune to his charms when he tries to persuade her to find him a condo. Cody knows there is chemistry between them, he can sense her interest in him, but something is holding her back.
Cody isn't one to give up easily, so he continues to chip away at Julie's resolve until she agrees to help him with his housing dilemma. As he learns more about her and the painful reason she pushes people away, especially him being a doctor, Cody's feelings for Julie deepen. He only hopes he can find a way to help her move past the pain and to be ready for the relationship he wants to build with her.
Julie Marone's family is breathing down her neck to find a date for her sister's Christmas Eve wedding. It has been a few years since her fiance passed away, and she knows she should be ready to move on. But knowing she should be ready and actually being ready are two very different things. Then cowboy Cody Brown walks into her office looking for a realtor. Sexy doesn't even begin to describe him. And then there's the electricity between them. But that all changes when he tells her he's a doctor.
The Wedding Date is an emotional, sexy novella to start off Cara Connelly's new Save the Date series. If the series is as well written and flirty as this story was, then count me in.
I was honestly a little conflicted when it came to Cody's character at first until I got a little further into the story. He comes across as a player, and a bit chauvinistic as well. But thanks to this being written from both pov's, switching seamlessly I might add, I understood his actions better and liked him more. Julie, on the other hand, I connected with quickly only to become frustrated by her choices, even though I already knew why she felt like she did. In the end it all worked out for our protagonists (as it should!) but it was a roller coaster of emotional baggage to get there.
Cara's writing style was a lot of fun to read and I thought she was very creative in her descriptions and dialogue. Even though some of the plotline dealt with very heavy situations like overcoming grief and fear, there was still room for flirting between Cody and Julie and some spicy love scenes. It gave the story a nice sense of balance and kept it from becoming too dark.
Overall I really enjoyed The Wedding Date. The characters were complex, their chemistry was great, and the plot was interesting. I look forward to reading more in this new series by Cara Connelly.
