required with this type of book

The book's conversations are written in black-speak, and the writer uses slang and language that was in use at the time of writing, so is difficult to understand at times for a teenager. This uses everyday language to interpret the book, making it understandable to a kid. Very valuable companion to the book.

Very helpful. I actually read the chapter summaries before the novel, knowing that I would be reading the real book later in small bits and pieces due to limited reading time. Character analyses were well done and was general background on the history (and dialect) of the period. Well worth the time and money, especially for someone long past college lit days.

Great background for Hurston's book

Cliff Notes in general and on 'Their Eyes were Watching God' in particular give a nice background/foundation for enjoying the brilliance of the writer's accomplishment. It heightened my appreciation of 'Their Eyes Were Watching God'.
