Exciting. And...sexy... I guess....

Positives: Exciting page-turning action. Hero rescues heroine and they live happily ever after. Book teaches we should love anyone... even the "dirty" town whore.

Negatives: Throughout the whole book, almost all the men are lusting and drooling after the heroine's body... even the hero, for a moment or two. The girl is nearly raped twice. ......I just don't get how this is supposed to add romance to the story. I certainly don't care to have 95% of the men I come across lusting after me.

Heart Melting Romance!

Within the first few pages, Sadie Jones won my heart. I bonded with her instantly. She was head-strong, stubborn, and a girl that showed fierce independence. That's my kind of heroine!

Not to mention, I love the time the book is placed in. The time frame is 1858 and takes place in beautiful Oregon.

It starts out with a bang when a a gang of halfwit outlaws kidnaps her and then... I'm not telling! You'll have to read it to see what happens. But the plot thickens and I was glued to the pages.

I loved Harrison. He was muscular, had brown hair and dark eyes. And his accent... So dreamy! I just fell in love with him instantly. Not only is he sexy, but he is the sweetest. He's the perfect hero! And after reading the book, I totally understood the title! : )

One of my favorite paragraphs that made my heart melt: His eyes had a look she'd never seen before. A determined look. A strong look. One that said he would not be letting her out of his sight any time soon. Sadie was a dead woman. Oh, not in a literal sense. But she was in danger just the same. Harrison's look, in that instant, spoke something even someone as inexperienced as shecould recognize. It was so profoundly primal and masculine. A look that said one thing loud and clear. You're mine.

With endearing characters (I loved and adored Grandma and Doc!) and a fantastic storyline, villianous bad guys, a handsome hunk...romance readers will be treated to an awesome read. There was such sweetness, love and deep-abiding affection throughout the book. It's a sweet and tender romance that will have you rooting for a happy ending for everyone involved.

This love story is breathtaking and made me wish that it would never end. It was such a fun, exciting, and thrilling read. Everyone will enjoy the blooming romance between Sadie and her leading man, Harrison. I give this book 5 stars without a doubt!

A powerful and insightful look at the US Army in Combat

The third (of a planned five) volume of Balkoski's history of the 29th Infantry Division in the Second World War, this is a worthy follow-on to the previous volumes. The first volume saw the division come ashore in the first wave on Omaha Beach and fight through the hedgerows to St. Lo. The second volume covered the often-overlooked Brittany campaign and the siege and liberation of Brest.

This volume continues with the division arriving on the German frontier as the northernmost division of the US Army. It covers the bitter fighting that resulted as the German Army managed to hold the line as allied logistics struggled to catch up from the advance. It is, like its predecessors, an excellent example of what a unit history should be. It provides vivid descriptions both of combat and of what the life was for Second World War GIs out of action. While focusing on the 29th, this history is an in-depth look at what the US Army in the ETO was really like at "the sharp end".

Inspirational and extraordinarily sobering

Joseph Balkoski has done it again in this third volume of his history of the 29th Infantry Division during WWII. A well written history, yes, but also a book for anyone who wants to understand what it was like on the front lines of this war. The series is captivating, the narrative easy to follow, and the key points easy to grasp. Although I have no military background, I can even understand what occurred during the battles described in this book!

Mr. Balkoski has definitely achieved his objectives of writing a narrative to help readers "gain a modest awareness of the abnormal and deadly world populated by American fighting men during World War II, and . . .appreciate the context of the great events in which those men participated". In doing so, this book probes the bigger picture of the the war in Northern Europe, the egos of generals, the exceptional deeds of specific individuals, and the frustrations and fears of the front-line soldier. Although set in the context of the 29th Division, these poignant stories have themes common to all units that took the brunt of front-line fighting in the European theater. For this reason, I recommend it to all. Buy one for yourself and one for your local library!

This series following the 29th into Germany is a fantastic work. It is compelling reading as well as offering valuable insights in to leadership from the platoon to division level. Most of all, it is preserving the history of the war before all of the first hand accounts are lost forever.

Der hier beschriebene „Entwicklungsbogen" soll die individuelle Förderung der Kinder unter Einbezug konkret zu beobachtender Verhaltensweisen fördern, erfordert allerdings eine Einführung in die zeitaufwändige Instrumentenanwendung und auch die Motivation der beteiligten Fachkräfte. Die Anwendung des Beobachtungsinstrumentes „Entwicklungsbogens" wird unter den hier angesprochenen Aspekten als eher fragwürdig eingestuft, zumal die Fachkräfte mit dem Instrument arbeiten müssen und keine gezielte Einweisung in dessen Anwendung erfolgt ist. Es scheinen wichtige Voraussetzungen für eine adäquate Anwendung des hier beschriebenen Instrumentes noch nicht vollständig vorzuliegen, zumal dessen theoretische und methodische Fundierung in der Literatur nicht auszumachen war.
Ein Ziel der Arbeit ist es auch, weitere Evaluationsstudien zur Anwendung des „Entwicklungsbogens" anzuregen, die letztlich dessen adäquate und reflektierte Anwendung ermöglichen sollen.

Violet, the shy, mysterious new girl in town, suggests that the girls play a scary game called Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, during which Violet makes up elaborate stories about the future ways in which beautiful Olivia, brassy Candace, and athletic Mischa will die. The game unsettles McKenna because she’s already escaped death once in her life, but she doesn’t want to ruin her friends’ fun. It’s only a game, she reminds herself.
But it doesn’t seem like a harmless game a week later when Olivia dies unexpectedly in a violent car crash, exactly as Violet predicted. And something begins haunting McKenna’s bedroom at night, leaving her clues that all seem to point to Violet. McKenna enlists the help of her cute next-door neighbor Trey in finding out exactly what kind of curse Violet has put on all of the popular girls in the junior class. As Violet rises to popularity and seemingly steps into the life Olivia left unfinished, McKenna and Trey know they only have a limited amount of time to bring an end to Violet’s game before more lives are lost.

Scary and Fun!

I don't normally read scary stories. They just don't do it for me. This, however, grabbed me, scared the poopies out of me, and kept me turning pages until the end.

"Light as a Feather" is a fairly typical YA romance/paranormal story that will appeal to those who enjoy the genres. You have the hot guy and the mysterious bad boy next door, ghosts and Ouija boards, and the inevitable deaths of several annoying high school girls that, somehow, you come to (almost) love. Then you have Aarsen's snide little remarks about Midwestern living tucked into every nook and cranny--it's both accurate and hilarious. She also has a way of dragging a ghosty scene on until your skin crawls delightfully!

There's a lot about this story that's cliche. The ending leaves you hanging, gasping for the next book (which is, as of this posting, still being written). Personally, I enjoyed the way that Aarsen handled both of these things--it's a fun, easy read that'll make your insides squirmy as you wonder what exactly caused that "bump in the night."

Predictable, but in a fun way

While there were several issues with sentence structure, this story was engaging enough that I wouldn't lower the rating for it. There are definitely lots of minor things I didn't like, and one question brought up that was never answered, which is a slight irritant, but overall, I thought this was a good, fun read. I will add this to the list of books I might recommend to my 8th grade students. I can definitely see some middle school kids really enjoying a paranormal story that doesn't include vampires or werewolves.
I definitely believe, if you like scary campfire stories, to give this one a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Good book

It kept me on the edge of my seat tell the end. At the beginning I thought it was just going to be another dumb teen book. Where they found the right answer at the end and lived happily ever after. With no consequences. I was surprised at hoe the book ended. It wasn't at all what I expected. I really want to know what happens to Hannah, how Trey and McKenna's relationship is after all this. But most of all I will want to know if that curse was in fact lifted and Mischa in fact lives. But over all a very good book. I would highly recommend it to any one who's big into stuff like this.

Cute love story

I love Nicholas Sparks. I have read all his books and I am always excited when a new one is going to be released. Even though, you sort of know what going to happen in a Nicholas Sparks book, I still love them. The Longest Ride was no exception. It intertwines a story about two couples, one old, and one young and does a really good job of connecting them together at the end. I don't want to give too many details but anyone who loves Nicholas Sparks or just wants to read a cute love story should read this, you won't be disappointed. Not to be corny, but, I think what I love most about Nicholas Sparks books is that the guy in the story always really, truly, and without reservation loves the girl and would do anything for her.

Sparks is Unbelievable!!

I’ve had a long reading relationship with Nicholas Sparks, and the best way I can describe it is Incredible!!. Going into his each of his books, I never doubt he has a fantastic story to tell. As with all of his books, you get to know the characters, Their lives, feeling, and all their emotions as if experiencing them yourselves. I usually cry reading every one of his books (whether from happiness or sorrow) an did so again with this one.

Thankfully, The Longest Ride was absolutely perfect! This novel is definitely my favorite by Sparks and I canNOT wait to see the movie.

The Longest Ride shares two parallel stories that I’ll only touch upon briefly because I don’t want to give anything away.

The first story is of Ira Levinson, who is a ninety-one year old widower that has careened off a snowy embankment and is stranded waiting for help. As the hours and cold set in, the outlook is bleak and daunting. However, it’s during Ira’s most desperate moments that his wife Ruth that passed away nine years ago appears to him and together they reminisce about the life they shared together prior to her passing. This is the story we all dream of…That’s one in a life-time love…Ira and Ruth story was my all time favorite.

The second story occurs miles away between a cowboy, bull-rider named Luke and a college student named Sophia. They meet at a rodeo and soon strike up an unbreakable bond and heartfelt romance that’s not without its fair share of struggles and hardships.

As these storylines progress, we get to know these two couples and all the while ponder how Sparks will merge their lives. Well, let me end by saying this, the crossroads for their stories was an amazing moment, and the twist at the end had me smiling, guffawing and pining to see the movie.

The Longest Ride is one of Sparks rare moments where I didn’t have the urge to fling the book out the window. Loved it!

Amazing!

The only book that I've read in the past of this author was The Notebook. When I saw this one, of course, I thought it would be about Cowboys. The book certainly surprised me in a very good way. Even though the reading is very simple it holds treasures of life. I recently lost my husband of 46 years so this spoke volumes to me. To experience a love so deep that you feel like your life can't go on without that person is staggering. The sweetest part of this book is not only Ira and Ruth in the car wreck reminiscing, but how the prize of the portrait of Ruth was the key to changing the life of the buyer. I love Nicholas Sparks' books and look forward to the next one.
