Here we have the horrors of war , specially the issue of wartime in winter . Mark Anthony made many mistakes , and the Parthians had a field day , however it was a setback , not a defeat . Yes the book is long , but this is real history !

Great story of the avenging of Caesar's death at Phillipi. Also a good account of Antony's disasterous invasion of Parthia. Shows why Antony lost of Octavian. A good subordinate general doesn't always make a good commanding general.

I enjoyed this version.. I would have given it 5 stars, if there was more interaction between Octavian, Anthony, and Cleopatra. Their perspective about what got them to the final end. Great overall.

War Dances by Sherman Alexie
Grove Press, 209 pp.

Sherman Alexie is as interesting a person as he is a writer. A few years back I heard him do an interview with national conservative talk show host, and Seattle-based, Michael Medved. Although Alexie declared himself somewhat left on the political spectrum, I found him to be one of the most delightful (and I'm not a guy who uses that word often, but it fits) interviews I've ever heard. While so many folks, on both sides can sound downright mean, Alexie is honest, self-deprecating, insightful, and quite funny.

Why did I start this review of War Dances with a review of Alexie's interview prowess? Well, because I found many of the reasons I liked the book are the same reasons I'd liked the interview. While at times I laughed, saddened, and even winced, I was sucked in by every word.

While the stories appear to be "all over the place," you sense there is a common thread running through the stories--and there is. And these are stories that feel so real the fact they're fiction, often feels vice versa. So real. And for me, as a Seattle cop, my day job, it rang incredibly real in one particular story.

A father is home alone, in Seattle's Central District, (my beat) working as a freelance film editor. There's a knock at the door at three in the afternoon. Determining that no one of any worth comes to anyone's door at that time of day, he ignores the knock and returns to his work. A minute or two later he hears a window break, and confronts a burglar who's broken in. The remainder of the story is fascinating, but I can tell you this specific type of burglary, this M.O., Modus Operandi, is unfortunately way too common in the neighborhood Alexie describes.

The stories in War Dances all have this sense of realism, and are uniquely compelling. The way the book is composed, longer, short stories, are interspersed with poems. I'm probably not the most qualified to judge poetry, but, like with wine, I know what I like. I respond to Alexie's poems like no one else's I read.

Normally when I read poetry I either, roll my eyes, gag, and then determine immediately, it sucks. My alternate determination is ambivalence: I truly don't know if I like it or not. Since poetry is too often associated with the realm of pretense, sometimes I think I'm supposed to like it, like I tried to like Maya Angelou's poem at the last presidential inauguration. I felt I was expected to like it, I've liked some of her other poems, I tried to like it--alas, for me, not!

I'm not sure what it is, but I find most of Alexie's poetry deeply satisfying. I may risk some pretension here myself, but I find it refreshingly honest. It feels as if the poet is truly writing for himself--damn the reader (in a nice way), but this is stuff that feels like it really means something to him, and though he may not care if it means something, or anything, to others, it does mean something to me, and I'd guess it will resonate with you too.

But mostly you'll find the true human experience, something we all share regardless of color or background.

A great read for those who desire a start in the software testing profession or a seasoned professional who need a quick review

I have read Vijay's testing blog for a few months and have found it helpful. So when I saw that he wrote this book, I knew that I should read it. I have more than 20 years as a software developer (programmer as we used to say) more than 12 years as a QA engineer, and 6 years in Information Security. I am no stranger to testing. The book is highly practical, and is well written for both novices and for those who seasoned professionals who could use a refresher. It offers sound advice on preparing, seeking and interviewing for a testing position. The book covers soft skills such as communication and teamwork. The book offers many samples, templates checklists and tips and tricks on a breadth of pertinent topics. Concepts and terms are explained clearly. I have read many QA and testing books, but I haven't seen any that outline the skills and tips on how to get started as a software tester.

I also appreciated the chapters covering job (career) networking, continuing education, and surviving an economic downturn and web application and security testing.

Following the advice given in the book will help both novices and seasoned professionals. I highly recommend that anyone seeking a first time job as a software tester or someone who can appreciate a high level review. My only minor complaint is being an American reader, I notice the missing conjunctions. I would suggest a chapter including bug taxonomies, and a chapter listing testing tools and where to find training for them.

As I am a Passionate Tester, I always thrive to read the books on testing and other technologies.
I have read this book and it took 9 hours (3 hrs a day).

Here is my review, which is solely based on my personal.

1. This Book is simple to read and will guide you to be a "Good Tester" than you are at present.
2. This Book gives you a path to motivate yourself to be a Test Leader also with motivated quotes.
3. This Book is not only for Freshers who are entering to the software industry but also useful for experienced to make career ahead.
4. This Book was written from practical experience point of view outlining from skills to jobs.
5. This Book has clearly explained the concepts and processes that is used widely across the testing world with examples.
6. This Book also covers about how useful social networking sites like twitter/LinkedIn, freelance testing sites, blogs ,tools, magazines, certifications, resumes, appraisal system.

I feel if anyone would start their career on testing, they should keep this book as a guide.

Must read for all software testers and who want to be in software testing

When I came to know about this book I ordered it quickly through amazon as I know the author and his blog.

There are some interesting methods discussed in the book about introducing new testing process in QA teams. This is very helpful for new teams or anyone who does not have detailed idea about software testing process in general.

This book covers many chapters from QA career life and hence author is succeeded in showing us the testers journey from getting a job to becoming a test lead or manager. I first saw the table of index of this book and I amazed with the information covered in this book for such a little price.

What I like most
The simplicity of explaining the testing concepts and processes. Everything is put up in very simple language any newbie can understand and follow. Yet it is very powerful to learn the software testing techniques to advance in this field.

I also like the bonus chapter with all resources mentioned to become a freelance software tester. It is quite useful if used properly.

What I did not like
There is very little information about automation testing.

Overall if you want to get started, learn and expert practical software testing then this is must book.

I was shocked to hear about the truths in this book. Dr Duke cites legitimate sources to back up his argument about the threat of Global Zionism and about the natural differences between the races. Bravo!

Duke's Own Story and Defense of His Beliefs

David Duke presents his own life story and explains the foundations of his racial beliefs in a format somewhat similar to Edward Bellamy in his fictional Looking Back. But instead of a friendly professor explaining the joys of socialism some hundred years in the future, Duke supplies a personal story of his own awakening to the demise of the white race as he grew up in Louisiana. Chapters of personal experiences are intermixed with chapters of hard core facts about race. Duke does this nicely and readers will come to understand his positions.

Especially interesting are the chapters about those folks who opposed him and what tactics they used in attempting his defeat. The story of his senate race is fascinating in that blacks and Jews had virtually every national politician making statements hoping for his defeat, this from President Bush on down. There are also stories of his imprisonment on false charges and his soap box oratory at LSU.

My Awakening is a lucid memoir of a man who sought the truth and the penalty he paid for it. Five stars for sure.

Kiss of Life a Tease for more.

I love these books, putting vampires with God's message of redemption would Seem to be like mixing oil and water. Instead it is like mixing a sweet cream with a tart berry.

The short story ends a bit abruptly and leaves you wanting to know more, for this is only a glimpse to what their story could be. Still I enjoyed it.

Interesting, but doesn't tell me much

A very short addition to the trilogy, telling a bit of the back story of the Baron. It was too short, however, and really didn't answer any questions. It was interesting to see a bit of where he came from, but the glimpse was so tiny that I didn't feel it really added much to my overall understanding of the characters or the story. In fact, it took me the entire reading to even remember who the Baron was and why I was even reading about him. I wish it had been longer.

I tend to dislike these sorts of publications because they seem to be just ploys for more money. Even at $.99 on Kindle, I felt like it was a bit much for just a 40-or-so-page read that didn't add anything to the story. If you really fee compelled to tell a tiny tidbit of a minor character's story, why not put it in the epilogue of the previous book? Or even the prologue of the next one? I couldn't get it out of the library so I just paid my dollar and read it. Whatever.

This was so good, I wish it was a full length novel. Debbie, please consider giving Erik and Jeanette their own story.
