Ehhh... can be boring and repetitive, but has some insights and gut-laughs.

The book wasn't as much fun as I recalled it being when I read it as a teenager. It has so much repetition of extremely trivial events in the life of major league ballplayers. It lacks substance to present an overall unifying theme- other than the point hammered over and over that the manager and coaches- and some of Bouton's teammates were awfully small-minded.
The storied diary did relate many stories that were likely funny then- and are no less funny in 2016. Hilarious anecdotes, along with an insider's feel for what ballplayers do behind the scenes- and their insecurities about their day to day role with the team satisfied my curiosity as a lifelong baseball junkie.
The antics described in this book will likely seem tame and almost quaint to someone younger than me.

It's one of the most important books regarding sports both in the US and abroad and should be required reading for anyone who wishes to work professionally in the industry.
