About the Author
Born in the northwestern United States and raised on the front range of Colorado, Jeff Carson attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Sciences. 

Armed with his specialized credentials, Jeff worked at golf courses for the next decade, dreaming of becoming a golf professional one day. After a long stint as an employee that doused his passion for the game, Jeff broke from the golf industry and started writing.

Great Series!

Rarely are you able to read books out of sequence in a Series, and its okay. Each of the books in the David Wolf saga can stand on their own, which is quite a feat in a day where there are book series that can stretch into oblivion. I read Book 3, then Book 1, and had to get Book 2, the Silversmith. Filled with likeable characters with human failings, and vicious well painted criminals and bullies alike, this series does not disappoint.

A very nice compliment and extension of the first book in the David Wolf Series (Foreign Deceit). Jeff picks right up where he left off from book number 1--having the main character immediately thrust back into issues upon his return from overseas. A fast moving, smartly written and still-believable and fun story. I think it took me perhaps 2 days to power through because--just like book 1, I just really wanted to see what would happen next. In the idea of other characters I have come to love reading-Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, Gabriel Allon--David Wolf is a wonderful yet flawed hero!! You can't help but root for him. Keep them coming, Jeff!!

Very different setting from the fist David Wolf book, but just as fast paced and enthralling. Great, believable action with good character development. Will be very interested to see if there is a sequel. Looking forward to more adventures from this author.

Born into a baronial family that is already engaged in a blood feud with another noble house, motherless Otto is sent to live with monks while still an infant. Reclaimed at age 12 by his militant, but loving father, the gentle-natured boy is kidnapped and mutilated by the rival family. Fortunately, Otto finds comfort with his captor's daughter, Pauline, who helps him escape. His father's courage and cunning allow the lad's safe return to the monks who place him under the emperor's protection. His silver hand is a replacement for the one Otto lost while in captivity, but his injury does not prevent him from maturing wisely and marrying Pauline. Geoffrey Howard's crisp diction and nuanced characterizations enhance this classic story which is more likely to be listened to than read. The recording opens with a brief, informative biography of Pyle, and uses his original artwork on the cover. The case is a durable plastic with useful information, and the cassettes are well-marked. While this is not a necessary purchase, it is a worthy addition to any audiobook collection seeking lesser-known classics in children's literature.

I bought the e-version published by Flapguin, and found it had only illustrations from book covers of Pyle novels. Therefore, I only downloaded the sample preview of this edition, but was again disappointed. There were a few samples of Pyle illustrations--not from "Otto," but from other Pyle titles!

If you want a Kindle version of "Otto of the Silverhand" with ALL the illustrations (full page illustrations, as well as the small pieces of art at the beginning and end of chapters in the printed edition), then check out The Baldwin Project version. It's worth the $1.99 for their .AZW file.

If you are hoping for a good practice exam(s)

I'm not sure how anyone could rate this book much higher than a single star. It will only take you about 10 minutes to get through their practice exam(s). If you are hoping for a good practice exam(s), you are not going to get it from this book. It falls short on all accounts. You will get so much more by just performing a search from your favorite search engine.

I would not recommend this book at all! The book doesn't even come close to helping prepare for the College English Placement test(which I just took). I am glad I also used other resources as well. I used the -Act review books for one example, and University College websites. This book was a complete waste of my time and money!
