The Living Myths

Brokaw has a terrific knack for using myths from the past and steering events to make these things believeable in our sceptical scientific society. The plot is excellent and draws the reader in. Lourds finially secumes to love in this novel and is sincere---not acting like a tom-cat! The chase scenes and danger are still present and it is an all-together delightful read.

Good story but slow to develop

Both my wife and I read this book, and came to the same conclusion. It takes far too long for the intrigue to build enough to keep you riveted. I thought the storyline was good, the writing is fine, and the setting was intriguing, but it took almost 75% of the book before we got hooked. That's not to say this is not a good writer or anything of the sort. It's just that he uses a great deal of color to paint his picture.

Awesome, original take on the zombie genre

This was a great zombie thriller, which really turned a lot of the zombie "rules" on their heads – the zombies can shoot guns, drive cars, etc. – have human intelligence – but aren't human at all. Getting bitten by one doesn't make you turn into a zombie, you have to die 1st – and even if you die of an unrelated cause like a heart attack, you will still rise from the dead. Only you wont be you anymore – you will be possessed by a demon who will control your body. All of the zombies are actually intelligent demons were possessing the bodies of the dead. It was a really interesting take on the zombie theme. The book was very compelling and I found myself turning pages eagerly awaiting what each next chapter would bring. The characters were very likable or very easy to hate – I really really cared what happened to them, and the ending – well, I'm really angry at what the author pulled, but in the end, I decided that it really was the best way for it to end. I won't say anything more than that so I don' give a spoiler. But it was really a good book. I just ordered the sequel from paperback swap and I hope it's as good. Oh by the way – animals turned to zombies to in this :-)

I found this gem out at Boarders while I was working the night shift in fast food way out near the farms. Oh! My! I am sooooo glad I found Mr. Keene. I have purchased or borrowed fro the library many of his books. But this series right here!!!! MAAAANN! SO raw!!! Oh my. Get this and City of the Dead. If your debating just do yourself a favor. Any of his books really.

I received a copy of A Stitch In Time by Amanda James in exchange for a review.

When I first received a review request for this book, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. But, as I got reading, I was very impressed. In a quick and easy ready, this modern-day romance follows Sarah, a middle aged divorcee who happens to be a teacher. Struggling to find her niche at work and feel satisfied, and also struggling to get over the divorce from her ex-husband, she is in dire need of something new and exciting. And she definitely gets that, and more when John Needler shows up into her world. He is larger than life and very attractive but things aren't quite right with him. He confesses that he's involved with time travel and tells Sarah that she has been chosen to help go back in time to fix some things. Her background as a history teacher comes in handy as she is whizzed from time to time in history. But, things get complicated as she starts to feel things for John but doesn't really trust herself to fall in love again. This story is filled with a lot of historical detail and that is something that I really enjoyed. In the end, you see that Sarah is happy that she is a history teacher because it finally came in handy and the author keeps you guessing until the very end as to what will happen between Sarah and John. Will they? Won't they? You have to read to find out.

Timing is everything

I read this book due to a link on Twitter - and I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed it - and finished it within a couple of days. I love history so the 'travelling back in time' aspect of the book appealed to me - and the characters of Sarah and John were immediately likeable. Sarah was not suddenly all knowing in the situations into which she was flung - and her struggles to decide what she should or shouldn't do in these circumstances were funny and even gripping. It won't matter if you don't usually like fantasy or time travel - the people are the heart of this book. It's an easy read - and thoroughly enjoyable.

How to tell this quickly, well a cute guy shows up and tells her she must stitch together times and sends her back to do so. If she saves 3 she saves 9 and more.

I am taking a step back. Our heroine Sarah is unhappy, she is a teacher but has issues at work. Her personal life sucks too. And if I was her I would be unhappy too. But in comes mystery guy from the time agency. And because she is a history teacher she does well. She gets to to go to WWII Sheffield, to play little house on the prairie and to be a maid. But yes her modern sensibilities both saves her and gets her in trouble. But then it was not easy back then, and certainly not for a modern woman.

Oh yes, I did not forget mystery guy, there are sparks there and I will say no more.

Time-travel, romance and lives to be saved in this interesting mix.
